There's no such thing as a right or wrong time to visit Rarotonga. The average daily high temperature only varies about three degrees - the difference between 28°C in January and 25°C in July. While it does rain a little more between November to April, typical Rarotonga weather delivers an average of eight sunshine hours a day.
Australian and New Zealand passport holders visiting The Cook Islands, travelling as a tourist, are not required to obtain a visa for stays less than 31 days. For every tourist, you will get a Visitors Visa if on arrival you have:
1) A passport valid for at least six months from the departure of your holiday with two blank pages.
2) Hold proof of sufficient funds for your holiday
3) Hold proof of onward/return flights.
The visitor's visa can be extended two weeks after the arrival to the country by contacting Immigration Cook Islands.
Rarotonga uses New Zealand currency, so organizing money is easy. Choose Cook Islands have negotiated with accommodation establishments and tour operators to secure for you the best and most advantageous deals that will save your money and give you the best holidays possible!
If you're self-catering, there's a supermarket in Avarua and a general store in Vaimaanga. Expect to pay New Zealand prices or even less at restaurants and cafés.
Visitors should be up-to-date with routine vaccinations, including tetanus. Vaccinations for hepatitis A and typhoid should be considered. To decrease the risk of catching dengue fever or chikungunya, mosquito nets and repellents are recommended.
